My Story
Welcome! I am The Garden Companion - an experienced gardener located on the Suffolk/Cambridgeshire border. From a young age I have loved gardening and growing plants and being enveloped by nature and the change in seasons. In 2021 I gave up my full-time career as a veterinary surgeon to focus on horticulture, studying the RHS 2 Diploma in Horticulture and a course in Garden Design. I have immersed myself in all things horticultural, opening my own garden for the National Garden Scheme and volunteering at Cambridge University Botanical Gardens in their education department. I run a school gardening club and volunteer my time to help plant up charity gardens and show gardens at Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows.

Over the years I have met numerous gardening enthusiasts who want to be able to do more in their gardens but just don't have the knowledge or confidence to get going. These are people who love being in the garden and want to do the work themselves, rather than hiring a professional gardener. I soon realised there was a gap in the market where I could share my skills to enable this group of eager, green fingered friends to gain the confidence and know-how to develop their own haven, and so The Garden Companion was born!

My mission is to provide personalised, practical coaching for garden owners to set them on the right path. This could encompass the garden as a whole or just one aspect such as the vegetable garden or herbaceous borders. I can provide planting plans and help source plants and materials where needed and am happy to assist in any way I can in both a practical and consultancy role.
At the heart of everything I do is working with nature, not against it, following organic principles and being forever mindful of our impact on the environment. I can guide you how to make your own garden pollinator and bird friendly so you too can experience the joy that comes with working alongside Mother Nature.
As we all know, a garden is more than just a space. The benefits of being outdoors and the mindfulness required to nurture a plot are now widely recognised. Rather than bringing in someone else to tend to your garden, why not embrace it yourself and enjoy the enormous rewards that our gardens give. I'm here for you, so let's get started!
